Deprecation of X (formerly Twitter) Media Upload v1.1 API Endpoints
On Monday, 9 June 2025, the social-media platform X will deprecate its v1.1 media-upload endpoints. This requires that all users switch to their v2 API. You can read more in the announcement on X’s community site: X media upload endpoints update and extended migration deadline.
How am I impacted?
The X ProMediaAPI will be retired:
This means that video-thumbnail editing will no longer be possible.
In addition, the limits for video uploads will change according to the values below:
Limit name | New values (standard) | Previous values (ProMediaAPI) |
---|---|---|
Maximum video duration | 140 seconds | 10 minutes |
Maximum file size | 512 MB | 1 GB |
Maximum dimensions | 1920 × 1920 | 2160 × 2160 |
What steps do I need to take?
If you are an X ProMediaAPI user with posts scheduled in Publisher, make sure that all of your posts with video content conform to the new platform limits. Otherwise, you might encounter an error when your post tries to publish.
At this time, X has not revealed any alternatives to their ProMediaAPI. Once their changes go into effect, you will be unable to upload video content that exceeds their standard platform limits. Editing video-thumbnails will also not be possible.
