New Version: Improvements to User Experience for Flow Authoring

We are happy to announce a new version of Bot!

This version brings improvements to the authoring experience.

  • Intents
The Intents interface was improved, with its visual elements now aligning with changes made to the flow authoring interface, removing some unused and potentially confusing legacy fields and enhancing the mechanism for importing and exporting intents to conversation handlers.

  • Routing Rules
The Routing Rules interface was completely redesigned to provide an easier-to-understand user experience. This includes removing some legacy conditions that were no longer used, updating the remaining conditions and their descriptions to make them more understandable for users, and sectioning each set of conditions for ease of navigation. These improvements were also made consistent across all areas of authoring that use the Routing Rules editor (Intents, Variables, and so on).

  • Data Types
Data Types were updated to include guidance tooltips and improved visuals to allow users to better make use of this function with advanced Intent configurations.

  • Response Groups
The Response Groups interface was redesigned to make it visually consistent and easier to configure for users. This includes removing some inconsistent elements from the configuration options. Response Groups can now be edited from within the flow authoring interface in addition to from the specific, Response Groups interface.

  • Bot Tester
The Bot Tester was completely replaced with a new set of functionality with a simplified streamlined interface. This involves removing the potentially confusing dropdown list of unsupported legacy channels.

    • The Bot Tester now automatically creates a “Test” web channel for users when first used, allowing more accurate testing experiences using a facsimile/mock-up experience.

    • Users are now able to access the Bot Tester from anywhere within the Authoring menu of their Bots and can drag and drop the testing window around the screen to reposition the testing console while they work on their flows.

  • Bot Variables
The Bot Variables interface was updated to align to the previous improvements made to Flow Variables. This provides a simplified interface with updated descriptive text and tooltips for ease of use. Bot Variables can also now be accessed from within the Authoring Canvas rather than having to navigate elsewhere, greatly improving their accessibility while configuring flows.

  • Library Tree menu
The Library Tree menu was updated with improved visuals and icons to improve accessibility, in addition to updating its backend functions to improve usability.

  • Authoring main page
The main host page for Bot received various backend improvements, allowing the tool to provide much quicker load times when opening and editing Bots.
