On X, Video views count only on posts that have their own attached video. Emplifi does not store or display video views on replies, quotes, retweets, link posts, photos, or other posts that do not include a video attachment.
This matches how X attributes video views: the count belongs to the post that holds the video, not to posts around it in a conversation or thread.
Overview
Video views on X measure how many times a video was viewed during its lifetime. X counts a view when the video is at least 50% visible on a user's feed for 2 consecutive seconds.
Emplifi shows this metric only when the post itself has an attached video. If a post has no video of its own, Video views is not available for that post (the field is absent, not set to 0).
Products in scope: Dashboard, Content, Unified Analytics, and other Emplifi surfaces that use the X Video views metric.

What changed in August 2026
Before this correction, some non-video posts on X could show a Video views value. That value often matched (or nearly matched) a video elsewhere in the same conversation — for example a parent video post. Dashboards that broke down video views by media type could then show video views under Status, Link, or Photo. The same views could also be counted twice: once on the video post and again on a related non-video post.
From August 4, 2026, Emplifi stores Video views for X only when the post has its own attached video. Historical data from January 2026 onward has been cleaned to the same rule.
Data before January 2026 may still show video views on some non-video posts until a further historical cleanup is completed. If you need an older date range corrected for a specific account, contact Emplifi Support.
Which posts get video views
Posts with their own attached video
-
Video views: Yes
-
Rule: The post includes native video media. Emplifi stores the lifetime video view count for that post.
-
Note: If you publish the same video again as a new post with its own attachment, each video post can show its own aggregated view count. Matching numbers on two real video posts are expected when both posts contain the video.
Replies without video
-
Video views: No
-
Rule: A text, photo, link, or other reply that does not attach its own video does not get Video views, even if it replies to a video post.
-
Why: Video views belong to the post that holds the video, not to replies in the thread.
Quote tweets and retweets without their own video
-
Video views: No
-
Rule: Quoting or reposting a video does not give your quote or retweet its own Video views unless your post also attaches its own video.
-
Why: The views belong to the original video post (or to another post that attaches the video), not to the quote or retweet wrapper.
Link, status, and photo posts
-
Video views: No
-
Rule: Posts that are not video posts do not get Video views, including posts that only contain a URL to a video hosted elsewhere.
-
Why: A link to a video is not the same as attaching native video media to the post.
How this affects your reports
After the correction, totals for Video views on X can be lower than earlier exports for the same date range. That is expected when previous totals included views from non-video posts.
When you compare periods:
-
Prefer date ranges from January 2026 onward for consistent application of the rule
-
Treat a drop that lines up with this correction as a data-quality fix, not necessarily a drop in content performance
-
Use Impressions (not Video views) when you need reach-style metrics for non-video posts
Troubleshooting
Video views appear under Status, Link, or Photo
-
Symptom: A Dashboard or Unified Analytics widget shows Video views for non-video media types (for example Status, Link, or Photo).
-
Cause: Older stored values on non-video posts, or a date range that includes data before the January 2026 cleanup window.
-
Solution: Confirm the date range. For This year / 2026 ranges after the cleanup, non-video types should show no video views. If they still do, contact Emplifi Support with the account, profile selection, dashboard or board link, widget name, and date range.
Dashboard and Content show different video view totals
-
Symptom: Dashboard (or another aggregated report) shows a high Video views total, while Content shows a lower value for what looks like the same activity.
-
Cause: Aggregated widgets previously included video views stored on replies or other non-video posts. Content often surfaces the video post itself, so the two surfaces could disagree.
-
Solution: After the August 2026 correction, both surfaces follow the same rule: only posts with their own video contribute. Re-check the same date range. If numbers still disagree, contact Emplifi Support with links to both views and the profiles in scope.
Totals dropped after August 2026
-
Symptom: Year-to-date or custom-range Video views on X are lower than an earlier export for the same period.
-
Cause: Incorrect video views were removed from non-video posts. Those views were never views of video on those posts.
-
Solution: Use the corrected totals going forward. For client reporting, explain that Emplifi now matches native attribution: video views only on posts that contain a video.
Older date ranges still look inflated
-
Symptom: A range that starts before January 2026 still shows video views on non-video posts.
-
Cause: Pre-2026 historical cleanup is a separate follow-up and may not be complete for every profile.
-
Solution: Prefer 2026+ ranges when comparing before/after. To request cleanup for an older range on a specific account, contact Emplifi Support.
