Bar Chart Display and Export Behavior in Unified Analytics

In Unified Analytics, vertical bar charts display data based on available widget space to ensure readability. When a chart contains more bars than can fit within the widget width, lower-value bars are grouped into an aggregated “Other” category.

This article explains how bar charts behave within widgets and how different export formats handle aggregated data.

Bar chart display behavior

Bar chart widgets in Unified Analytics are designed to prioritize readability. When a chart contains many breakdown values, the number of visible bars may be limited based on the available horizontal space within the widget.

If all bars cannot fit within the selected widget size, the bars with the lowest values (typically those positioned on the right) that do not fit within the available width are grouped into an aggregated “Other” category. This ensures the chart remains clear and easy to interpret without overcrowding the visualization.

If additional horizontal space is available (for example, when resizing the widget), more individual bars may be displayed before aggregation occurs.

The “Other” category appears only when the number of breakdown values exceeds the space available in the widget. The “Other” category is a visual aggregation for display purposes within the widget. It does not permanently combine or modify your underlying dataset.

How exports handle aggregated data

When sharing a widget or exporting a board in Unified Analytics, the export behavior depends on the selected file format.

CSV and XLSX exports provide the full, unaggregated dataset. Even if the Unified Analytics widget displays an aggregated “Other” category due to space limitations, all breakdown values are exported individually. This allows you to perform complete data analysis outside the platform without losing visibility into lower-value entries.

PDF and PNG exports reflect exactly what is displayed on screen. If the bar chart shows an aggregated “Other” category in the widget, the exported PDF or PNG will display the same aggregated view. These formats are designed to preserve the visual representation of the board for sharing and presentation purposes.
