Define Your Custom Metric Requirements

Defining a metric begins with determining what you want to find out from the data you have. That requires understanding your data, how your data is used in computations.

In other words, it is a process of connecting your business case to your data, often in a close cooperation between your data specialists and Emplifi’s engineers.

This article will help you get going and ensure that we understand your analytics needs.

Define the goal of the metric

The following questionnaire will help you refine your requirements for your custom metrics.

  • How do you plan to use this metric? What are the business questions that you want to answer?
Example: We want to understand what is our total possible reach across all of our social media posts. We are using this KPI historically to compare the reach of the social media channels of our brands.

  • What do you want to measure?
Example: Simple sum of reach for each post in the given time range.

  • What are the supported social media platforms from which you want to use data?
    Example: Facebook and Instagram

  • Do you already use the metric (or a similar one) in your analysis/reporting outside the Emplifi platform?
    Example: Yes

  • Can you provide an example of real-life calculation of the expected metric?
Example: We posted three posts on Facebook last week.

    CODE
    Post 1 - Reach = 15
    Post 2 - Reach = 20
    Post 3 - Reach = 7
    Possible Reach for all our posts published last week = 15 + 20 + 7 = 42
